Andy Burns case study

After being a Royal Marine Commando for 25 years, Andy decided that he wanted a fresh, new challenge. He wanted the freedom to be his own boss and make his own decisions, and the ChipsAway’s tried and tested business model was the perfect fit!

Andrew told us about his life prior to ChipsAway: “Through my time in the military I gained a great deal of managerial skills but not many business skills. To bridge that gap, a franchise was the perfect solution.”

“Having attended a ChipsAway open day, I was very impressed by the business model” Andrew claims. “ChipsAway stood out because of its well-established, strong and reputable brand, with plenty of scope for expansion and a high income if you work hard. The lead generation from Head Office was also very impressive.”

Andrew carried out thorough research before fully committing: “I spent considerable time dissecting the costs involved in setting up and running a ChipsAway franchise. I asked several ChipsAway franchisees for a no holds barred account of their experience, and they all said that ChipsAway had delivered. I also joined my nearest franchisee for a day and really enjoyed the experience. I was pretty much sold on the idea from this stage.”

Since Andrew joined the network in Jan 2016, he claims that the training and support he’s received has been fantastic.

“Having very little experience in the industry, my biggest reservation was being able to carry out satisfactory repairs. I attended two in-depth training courses, a four-week standard course and after 12 weeks I returned to Head Office to complete a one week advanced course. This gave me a solid foundation and skill level to launch my business and earn from day one.”

“The specialist advice, knowledge and support from Head Office and other franchisees has been invaluable” Andrew confirms. “My mentor and the ChipsAway technical team have been there to advise me with any technical problems. The Franchise Support team have also provided guidance whenever I’ve needed it - any problems that I’ve encountered they have seen before, so they provide solutions that work.”

Andrew hasn’t looked back since joining ChipsAway and is thoroughly enjoying his new way of life. He also has ambitious plans for the future!

“The freedom of running my own business and reaping the rewards of my own hard work is incredible – the business model works if you follow it. Also, I get to take my bulldog, Frank, to work with me every day!”

“I have two employees and my second ChipsAway van will follow this year. I also plan to open a Car Care Centre, I am completely focused on growing my business.”

When asked if he has any regrets, Andrew replied “No regrets at all, it’s a great way of life.”
