The predicted weekend snow fills some of us with glee, but
motorists with gloom, because despite the beauty of the fluffy
white stuff, it presents drivers with so many challenges.
Firstly, we are expecting temperatures to drop as low as -10˚C
and 4 inches of snow in places, which means you will need to build
in extra time to your journey to clear the ice and snow from your
windscreen.
Low temperatures might also interfere with your engine starting,
and already the recovery services are reporting increased
strandings from flat batteries. So if you have to be
somewhere on time at the weekend, make sure you are charged up for
action.
The ice that forms such fascinating patterns on your windscreen
will be affecting the roads and if you haven't factored into your
winter preparations to swap your tyres for the higher traction,
tighter tread, winter variety do make sure you manage your
speed. Although, in truth traffic is likely to be slow moving
in heavy fall areas anyway.
And finally, when cruising along in the slush, grit and salt, be
mindful of the wear and tear to your paintwork and undercarriage
and sure to rectify any minor damage with a visit to ChipsAway as
soon as the thaw comes.
